My wife often says that our home attracts rare, odd, or injured animals. I tend to believe her. Yesterday, an Egyptian Goose showed up in our back yard with the other Muscovy and Mottled Ducks that usually appear.
After doing some research we found that the Egyptian goose is native to Africa, not North America. Images of the goose were often found in Egyptian writings, and were considered sacred. They prefer almost any wetland areas especially if they are open areas. They feed on grasses, seeds, leaves, and plant stems, but occasionally will eat small insects or worms.
Although they usually travel in pairs, this little female was alone. Females tend to “honk” while the males tend to hiss. This morning, she honked.
Here is a picture of her I took this morning using a flash …

Egyptian Goose
She’s appeared in our lives for a reason, now I have to figure out why.

Once you have established your power totem, the animal or animals that you feel the strongest connection to, you need to learn to honor it. In order to better understand its meaning and purpose in your life, you should honor your totem by surrounding yourself with its likeness.
Honoring your totem is more than just hanging a picture of it in your office or bedroom. You need to learn your animal. Research it from all aspects, including the scientific aspects, and the metaphysical. For example, the Dolphin is a symbol of breathing through your problems. But did you know that a dolphin’s rib cage compresses when it dives deep? What could this mean? Could it mean that you’ve compresses your difficulties and problems, and need to release them? Does it mean you problems are too wide spread and need to be compacted and focused on? Understanding more about your totem can open more pathways to understanding their relationship in your life.

Based on statistics, there are a lot of people who want to learn more about their Animal spirits, and totems. Using online sources, and my favorite book Animal Speak” by Ted Andrews, I have compiled a group of commonly search animal totems.
These totems can appear in a vision, or in reality. If a lizard crosses your path, it may not be inconsequential.
In part 1, we explore, the Blue Jay, Owl, Bear, Dolphin, Panther and Horse.
If your totem is not here, please leave a comment, and I will try to add it to the next article in this series.
